My name is Daniel Marcou and I created this website for three reasons:
To connect with the amazing community of spoon carvers with the hope of learning from them through conversations, interviews and links to their websites.
To share resources that have helped me and might be helpful to other spoon carvers too.
To write about my journey back into the world of craft (I used to be a goldsmith) and working with wood as well as what I discover along the way.
As someone who spends a lot of time in front of a computer (I work as a librarian, web developer, and writer), I saw spoon carving as an opportunity to go analog and escape the screen for awhile, and perhaps someday, make those beautifully functional wooden sculptures called spoons. I’m carving and learning every day, but I have a very steep learning curve. So far, I’ve discovered that a billet of green wood and a sharp knife can keep a person humble, mindful, and very satisfied!
Please contact me if you have a resource, technique, tip, tool or anythings else related to wooden spoon carving that you would like to share on this website. If you’re a spoon carver, I’d love to interview you!
