The series #9a Short Bent Spoon Gouges by Pfeil Swiss Made are generally used for cutting deep recesses and for hollowing out bowls. They are also particularly useful for cutting ornamentation, radii, and rounded surfaces. The curved shaft and scooped front work in tandem to remove bites of wood with each stroke.
